‘It was noted that sterile gauze wipes made of nonwoven materials in any proportion of cotton, viscose or polyester content demonstrated high hygroscopicity, many times higher than that of conventional medical gauze. At the same time, material consumption was reduced both in the operating theatre and in the dressing room. For a standard operation consumption of gauze wipes was reduced by an average of 1.5 ± 0.6 packs. It is also necessary to note a significant simplification of technology of material preparation for sterilisation: due to the fact that edges of nonwoven wipes do not crumble, there is no need to lay them down when forming the wipes. Thus, a simple folding of the cut material into 4 layers results in a medium-sized wipe, which is convenient to use in the operating theatre. Reduction of time spent on preparation of material for sterilisation (cutting, twisting of napkins/tampons/balls), convenience of use (high hygroscopicity at smaller sizes of napkins/balls/tampons, aesthetic appearance), better economic efficiency (less material consumption) allow to recommend to use medical gauze made of nonwoven materials for work in the operating unit of medical and preventive institutions'
